From Misophonia to Pursuing Medicine
I've often wondered: am I the metaphorical tiger at the table because I used to change personalities when subjected to eating with others? Or is there a metaphorical tiger at the table because I would enter fight-or-flight mode during gatherings involving food?
Regardless of the analogy, the message remains the same.
I struggled with misophonia from an early age. The signs and symptoms began to manifest around kindergarten—when I was about six years old. By third grade, I was in weekly therapy sessions, and my condition was at its peak. For several years, this was the height of my troubles.
Misophonia controlled my life. I was a slave to my condition. Despite my parents' best efforts—including religion, books, therapy, medication, punishment, and rewards—nothing worked.
Until one day, everything changed. I figured it out. I overcame misophonia as a young adult.
Now, as an adult, I am pursuing a career in medicine with a focus on psychiatry. I am currently a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), providing compassionate care to patients and gaining hands-on experience in the healthcare field. Additionally, I serve as a crisis counselor, offering support to individuals in emotional distress and helping them navigate through challenging situations.
I am also in the process of writing a comprehensive guide to overcoming misophonia, which I plan to publish as a book. This resource aims to share my journey and the strategies that helped me regain control over my life.
Through my experiences, I have developed a deep understanding of the complexities of mental health and the importance of empathy and support. My goal is to become a psychiatrist, specializing in treating individuals with sound sensitivity disorders like misophonia, and to continue advocating for those affected by this condition.
This blog is my way of sharing my journey, offering support, and providing resources to others who may be struggling with misophonia. Together, we can navigate the challenges and find peace in a world filled with sound.
